Is Bravecto safe?

The vet thought of poisoning, but could find nothing. On admission they asked if he had recently been treated for fleas. Indicated that he had had a tablet for that. (prescribed by the same practice). There was no response to this.

Labrador/Bernese Mountain Dog Cross Died After Bravecto

Upon admission, Boet was asked whether he had recently been treated for fleas.

Boet, 1.5 years old, a healthy Labrador/Bernese Mountain Dog crossbreed, was given a Bravecto tablet on May 10, 2023.

Prescribed by the vet. Asked for drops but got this because it was very handy...

On May 20th he suddenly became deathly ill. Foaming at the mouth, violent shaking, kind of spasms, could not walk anymore, panicky.

To the vet. They thought it was poisoning. Checked everything in that area but couldn't find anything.

When he was admitted, he was asked if he had recently been treated for fleas. He was told that he had had a tablet for that. (prescribed by the same practice) There was no response to this, so I didn't think about it any further.

High temperature

Boet was given sleeping medication and blood tests and then transferred to the hospital. There he was treated with intra lipid which could work well in poisoning. He did not respond to this. He was given a lot of medication but kept breaking through it with severe tremors and convulsions. This gave him a very high temperature.

The next day he was treated for epilepsy, although those symptoms were not typical for that either, but it was an emergency measure. Lab values were not very abnormal. Lymphocytes somewhat increased, potassium somewhat decreased.

Boet died within 24 hours of admission

That night we had to put him to sleep. Within 24 hours of admission it was over for him.

It was only later, when I read something about a flea tablet, that I started searching on the internet and then I discovered the story about Bravecto.

I still hoped that he hadn't had that but that turned out to be the case. If I had known this earlier I would certainly have had an autopsy performed but it is too late for that now.

I know there's nothing to prove, but to me it's clear.
